Between Friday and Sunday morning in Chicago, Illinois, thirty people were shot, four fatally, under the watchful eye of Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the city’s restrictive gun control policies.
Yup.
Another weekend, another series of senseless crimes somehow not stopped by progressive policies like restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens or defunding the police.
I wonder when leftists like Lightfoot expect their policies to start working?
ABC 7/Chicago Sun-Times reports the most recent fatality occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.
A 28-year-old man walking “in the 1200-block of West Fry Street” was shot to death by a gunman on foot.
Breitbart News reported earlier this month that between January 2020 and December 1, 2020, over 3,800 people had been shot in the Windy City.
The Chicago Tribune reports the specific number as 3,862 shooting victims, with 715 who were fatally shot between these dates.
On Monday alone, Breitbart notes, twelve people were shot, one fatally.
Over the weekend of November 20-22, fifty people were shot, five fatally, and the following weekend, twenty-eight were shot, seven fatally.
Meanwhile, carjackings have been surging in the city. Fox 32 reported that 1,229 carjackings occurred between January and November.
This is a very sharp increase from the 514 incidents for all of 2019.
Lightfoot, like so many other Democrat leaders this year, has made a big show of standing in solidarity with a movement whose objective is to demonize and malign law enforcement.
She’s been more than happy to shut down small businesses in her city for the sake of preventing the spread of COVID-19—when she herself flouted these restrictions to get a haircut.
Democrats’ platforms and policies aren’t meant to improve anyone’s life. Their platforms are meant to lure voters with pie-in-the-sky promises they’ll never keep, and their policies are meant to increase the power of the state to keep their voters forever beholden to them.
Winter can’t come soon enough for Chicagoans. Fewer people walking down the street means fewer people will be shot. Mother Nature can do more to reduce violence in Chicago than Mayor Lightfoot’s crime reduction policies. Whatever those are.
