When the left discusses systemic racism, they always manage to very carefully skip over the systemic issues within public schooling that are leaving millions of American children, many of whom are black and minority, in the dust. You would have to loathe black people to want to shackle their kids to failing K-12 public schools, schools that many white education establishment people do not and would never send their own kids to.
Sure, public school teachers are thrilled to indoctrinate their young charges with Marxist critical theory, but when it comes to supporting initiatives that would help the demographic groups they claim to fight for, they’re suspiciously silent.
The reason, of course, is simple, according to Thomas Sowell, whose explanation of the left’s opposition to school choice we recently highlighted.
Teachers unions, some of the most politically powerful groups in the nation, are only interested in protecting funding for their institutions.
Charter schools, meanwhile, that have the potential to bridge many of the yawning gaps in a standardized, one-size-fits-all school system that can never truly cater to our nation’s vastly culturally and socioeconomically diverse children, are the enemy of the public education bureaucratic behemoth.
For all their talk about providing opportunities to black and minority children, the Democrats are too beholden to the teachers’ unions to ever support school choice, which has the potential to provide priceless opportunities to millions of American students.
Now that the Democrats are celebrating Joe Biden as the projected winner of the 2020 election, however, teachers unions are not simply ignoring the plight of millions of children placed within their care; they’re celebrating the end of school choice with Trump’s Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, set to depart.
“We know Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will stand with us as we work to reclaim public education as a common good, as the foundation of this democracy,” National Education Association (NEA) President Becky Pringle said in a video message as Breitbart reports.
I’d be remiss if I neglected to mention that for education to be the foundation of our democracy, it actually has to adequately convey basic civics and U.S. history to children.
These days, most public schools completely neglect to educate children on the basics of civil duty, let alone anything other than the most radical of revisionist histories on our nation’s founding and the philosophical underpinnings of our democratic system in the first place.
Nonetheless, Pringle said is particularly excited about seeing DeVos leave the Department of Education.
I'm relieved and overjoyed. I’m also feeling overwhelming gratitude.
Because of you all, we’ll soon have a president committed to protecting and uplifting our communities. For the first time, the Vice President will be a Black woman and a daughter of immigrants. pic.twitter.com/rquH3FMYuR

Beth Kontos, president of the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Massachusetts affiliate, joined many other teachers unions’ officials and members who cheerfully anticipated DeVos’ leaving the DOE.
“Public education is not at your mercy any longer,” she said.

These are professional educators, celebrating not advancement for the next generation of leaders, but more funding for their already bloated and over-crowded, failing schools.
They will fail our children, just as they have done for decades.
This is what racism looks like brought to you by the purveyors of racism. Democrats.
