Several House Republicans are now working hard to ensure that infamous “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, is booted from her position on House committees due to her past anti-Semitic comments and the various postings she’s done about conspiracy theories.
This comes as a response to the efforts of Democrats in the House to do the same thing to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, an ardent Trump supporter who questioned the election results and who many are claiming holds to conspiracy theories.
Chad Pergram, a reporter who works for Fox News, posted a threat on Twitter saying, “The House is set to consider a measure this week that calls for Taylor Greene, a controversial first-term lawmaker known for his support of the QAnon conspiracy theory, from her assignment on the Education and Labor Committee.” He then added,”A proposed GOP-backed amendment to that measure calls for Omar, frequently identified as a member of the ‘Squad’ of progressive Democrats, to be removed from her committee assignments.”
Pergram went on to note that sponsors of the legislation include Reps. Brain Babin of Texas, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Jeff Duncan from South Carolina, Jody Hice from Georgia, and Ronny Jackson, also of Texas.
Omar has a robust history of making anti-Semitic statements and repeating hateful stereotypes and conspiracy theories about Jewish people. In one rather infamous tweet, Omar stated, “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel. #Gaza #Palestine #Israel”
Omar, who was recently seated on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, says she doesn’t understand why Jewish Americans are offended by her saying that “Israel has hypnotized the world” to carry out “evil.”
Omar has also thrown her support behind the very anti-Semitic BDS movement, saying that she “believes in and supports the BDS movement, and has fought to make sure people’s right to support it isn’t criminalized.”
For those of you wondering what the deal is with the BDS movement, the Anti Defamation League says, “Many of the founding goals of the BDS movement, including denying the Jewish people the universal right of self-determination – along with many of the strategies employed in BDS campaigns are anti-Semitic. Many individuals involved in BDS campaigns are driven by opposition to Israel’s very existence as a Jewish state. Often time, BDS campaigns give rise to tensions in communities – particularly on college campuses – that can result in harassment or intimidation of Jews and Israel supporters, including overt antisemitic expression and acts.”
Omar has also accused Jews of purchasing political support, stating that it’s “all about the Benjamins baby.” In an interview that took place earlier that year, Omar said, “that Israel should not be allowed to exist as a Jewish state, Israel is not a democracy, and compared Israel to Iran — which is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.”
Conservatives just want to see Democrats be consistent and hold their own side to the same standards they are holding everyone else to.
Maybe next, Republicans will move to have Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-California) removed from the powerful House Intelligence Committee after having a sexual relationship with a Chinese spy.
