Pandemics rock the globe, the economy goes up and down, election seasons fly by, and still the streets of Chicago are ravaged with gun violence thanks to the abysmal, apparently perpetual failure of liberal Democrat policies.
This year in Chicago has seen over 3,100 shooting victims in yet another bloody year in the notoriously violent city.
This comes from the Chicago Tribune’s oft-cited database of annual shootings and homicides each year, which is a 1,033 increase from 2019.
They report that, so far in 2020, 576 people have been killed in the Windy City, which is 165 more than all of 2019. 207 of those were victims of a shooting, while 313 of the homicide victims were black men, mostly young.
As Breitbart notes, they’ve reported that “at least 49 people were shot over the past weekend alone, at least seven fatally. Nearly 40 were shot, including six fatally, the weekend prior, and at least 50 were shot, 11 fatally, the weekend before that.”
And it’s just not Chicago.
Homicides in Dem0crat [sic]-controlled St. Louis are surging too. In fact, on September 21, 2020, Breitbart News reported murders in Mayor Lyda Krewson’s (D) St. Louis are on pace to reach a level not seen in 50 years.
Moreover, Breitbart News reported that Mayor Bill de Blasio’s (D) New York City surpassed 1,000 shootings for the year before August 2020 was over. The New York Post reported NYPD data indicating there were 1,004 shootings in NYC as of August 30, 2020. There were 537 shootings by that same time in 2019.
Violence is surging all across the country and all the Democrats can do is villainize the police and call for their departments to be defunded.
Yet they’ll be the ones claiming that they care about black lives? They have no regard for these lost black lives, young black men who were the victims of other young black men and not police officers.
Chicago, of course, is known for its strict gun control policies, and erroneously blames the crime on neighboring states with “no gun control.”
Of course, this conflicts with the narrative of progressive leftists like Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who also claims that police are terrorizing black communities.
Which is it? If the police were so intent on interacting with young black men, why are so many of them still shooting one another?
Our cities need police and our law-abiding citizens need gun rights, period. Chicago’s residents are being terrorized by criminals who enjoy the safe protective cloak of Democrat denial.
