When a person signs up to put their own life on the line to protect their communities, uphold the Constitution, and enforce the law, how do you think they feel when the people elected to lead these communities treat them like the bad guy?
It’s easy enough to criticize the job when you can sit in your proverbial ivory tower, trying to impress clueless progressives who know nothing about what it’s like to live in a nation with no law or order…but apparently want to find out.
In real life, police catch bad guys. In the fantasy world of the newly radicalized progressive left, however, the police are the bad guys.
It’s sick.
And it’s killing morale among our officers.
In an anonymous interview with Fox & Friends’ weekend co-host Will Cain, an NYPD officer explained that, as pressure mounts to defund police departments and anti-police sentiment increases, nationwide morale is plummeting.
“The term for the NYPD that is going around in every command in the city is ‘the job is dead.’ You would be crazy to take this job at this day and age,” the officer said, Fox News reports.
“When I became a police officer many years ago, I never thought that I would have to put this uniform on and be looked at as the enemy and to be hated,” he said.
“And it’s not fair because we sacrifice ourselves every day. No matter what your skin color is, it’s sad. In my tenure here at NYPD I can never ever imagine that it would be this bad, as far as not being supported.”
When Cain noted that Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), have been vague about their policies on law enforcement, the officer said that President Donald Trump “absolutely supports” the men and women in blue, while he’s certain that Biden-Harris “would not support us.”
“People who allow these protesters to talk about how they want to defund the police department, we’re there to make sure that nothing happens to them, but they are the ones saying that they want us dead,” he said.
The officer, who was once a registered Democrat and now votes Republican, also had a damning assessment of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, the City Council, and district attorneys, who he said create a “revolving door” of crime as they release criminals out on the street.
“[De Blasio] does not care about the police. He doesn’t care about Black lives. You know, he is more concerned with painting murals,” he said, pointing to the city’s dramatically increasing crime rate.
Fox News notes, “According to the NYPD, shootings in the city have increased by more than 80% compared to the same period last year, with the number of victims jumping from 581 to 1,095.”
The officer explained that the crime has gotten so bad, he now advises tourists and his own family to stay away. While he previously hoped his own son would follow in his own footsteps and become a police officer as well, this is no longer the case.
“It’s not just in NYPD, it’s across the United States,” he said. “It’s sad that that’s where we are at right now. People who are saying that we’re afraid, we’re not afraid. We just want to be supported.”
The Bible says that “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” How many brave men and women have taken up this calling, only to be abandoned by their elected officials and unappreciated by clueless radicals who have no idea what it means to suffer and sacrifice?
A nation that has no appreciation for its protectors is a nation that has lost its moral compass. We need leaders who can restore direction, and safety to our streets.
