Both current and former Democratic officials, most of whom have brow beaten the rest of the country to abide by COVID-19 restrictions such as mask mandates and lockdowns, are now being accused of ignoring their own advice in recent days as the Delta variant of the illness continues to surge across the country.
Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser, for example, was recently pictured celebrating her birthday while not wearing a mask, just a few hours before her new indoor mask mandate was scheduled to take effect. Bowser was captured in a group photograph standing along with comedian Dave Chapelle while not wearing a face covering.
The following day, after the order had gone into effect, Bowser was spotted again officiating a large outdoor wedding without wearing a mask, which was followed by an indoor dinner.
Bowser’s office released a statement where she spoke about the wedding event that took place on July 31, saying: “The Mayor wore a mask indoors in compliance with the mandate, and the organizers and venue staff worked to create a safe environment for the staff and guests. The Friday, July 30th evening event called into question by conservative media was outdoors, on a rooftop.”
When encountered by the Washington Examiner, Mayor Bowser confirmed that she officiated the maskless, indoor wedding, but when asked why she was violating her own mask mandate, her security retinue quickly escorted her away. https://t.co/hY0Ji2zqnj pic.twitter.com/xozhIupSin

The Washington, D.C., health order requires masking indoors regardless of vaccination status. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently cited a study showing breakthrough cases among vaccinated populations but still advises that receiving the vaccine is the best way to prevent serious or fatal COVID-19 infections.
During the annual Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago over the weekend, the city’s Democratic mayor, Lori Lightfoot, delivered a speech praising the high number of vaccinated attendees in the crowd, citing data the event coordinators released on Twitter.
“The rate of vaccination in this crowd is off the charts,” she went on to say, as 90% of attendees displayed their vaccine proof at the front gates and a another 8% of those in attendance shared proof of negative coronavirus tests.
But as of July 30, Chicago was averaging 192 new COVID-19 cases, according to city health data. Despite nearing the threshold she mentioned on Tuesday, no mask ordinance was made for the festival that draws an average of 100,000 people per day to the three-day event.

Lightfoot herself has been captured in footage striking a pose with the band Black Pumas while not sporting a mask. The mayor is fully vaccinated and there’s no mandate that’s been reinstated in Chicago. However, the city’s daily case average was hitting above 205 on Monday.
Even former President Barack Obama is seeming to ignore the current Delta cases in order to hold his 60th birthday party at Martha’s Vineyard this upcoming weekend. There is slated to be 450 guests in attendance.
The party will be held outdoors and there is a mandate that anyone who is planning to attend the event be tested for COVID.
