One of the great things about a republic is that we are not governed by a monolithic state with a uniform agenda.
We are governed by leaders we elect ourselves or at least until recently who, as this is a federalist system, make calls themselves on whether they will be enforcing the law as outlined by a higher power.
This is something that is sorely underappreciated by millions of constitutionally illiterate Americans who incorrectly view elected officials as having more power than they do, in reality. Leaders are always subject to the will of the people, and, no matter what level of the federalist system they find themselves placed on, they have the capacity to stand up to tyranny.
Which is exactly what the Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes is doing.
On Thursday, he announced that he and his deputies will not be responding to calls that relate to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s new wave of mask mandates and restrictions on get-togethers, The Daily Wire reports.
Saturday marks the beginning of a new untenable partial lockdown order as issued by Newsom. California residents deserve Newsom though. They elected him. They can unelect him too.
“Earlier today, the Orange County sheriff’s department became aware of a limited Stay at Home Order that Governor Newsom’s office ordered to go into effect on Saturday, November 21 at 10 PM,” Barnes said in a statement in response to Newsom’s new order.
“Throughout the pandemic, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department has taken an education-first approach with regard to the public health orders. We are currently assessing the action by the governor. At this time, due to the need to have deputies available for emergency calls for service, deputies will not be responding to requests for face-coverings or social gatherings-only enforcement.”

The Daily Wire explains that the California Department of Public Health issued the partial lockdown order on Thursday which bans activities deemed “nonessential” between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in counties that have the highest warning level of COVID cases. The only thing “nonessential” is government.
What an intelligent virus—it can tell time, it can determine which activities Emperor Newsom has deemed “essential” after 10 p.m.! Extraordinary.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the new rules will last through December 21st, if not longer.
“The virus is spreading at a pace we haven’t seen since the start of this pandemic and the next several days and weeks will be critical to stop the surge. We are sounding the alarm,” Newsom explained in a statement on Thursday. “It is crucial that we act to decrease transmission and slow hospitalizations before the death count surges. We’ve done it before and we must do it again.”
Yes, this is the same Governor Newsom who recently got busted for his own socially-not-distanced, maskless birthday party at a swanky Bay Area restaurant.

The governor has faced harsh criticism after a report published by the San Francisco Chronicle last week revealed he had attended the dinner party that “brought together at least 12 people to celebrate the 50th birthday of Jason Kinney,” described as a lobbyist and “longtime friend and political adviser to Newsom.” State guidelines at the time prohibited social gatherings that included more than three households and have since become even more restrictive. “Representatives for Kinney and Newsom declined to specify how many households the diners represented, but did not dispute that it was more than three,” the report said.
When Newsom apologized for making “a bad mistake” on Monday, he described the dinner as taking place at an “outdoor restaurant” in a county that, on Nov. 6, imposed “relatively loose” restrictions.
However, the FOX report notes that “the photo appears to show the dinner being mostly indoors with sliding glass doors opened up for air.”
Typical do as I say, not as I do elitist snobs. All liberal elites like Newsom, Pelosi, and Anthony Fauci have to do when caught violating their own edicts is to offer a half-a$$ed non-apology and the media lets them off the hook with hypocrisy.
