Portland Police Outraged Over Mayor’s Ban On Tear GasIsa Ryan
If you’re a law enforcement officer, tasked with keeping the peace when the lawless threaten to disrupt it, how do you think it feels when those elected to lead your communities refuse to have your back?
Or, even worse, they turn against you openly?
This is what members of the Portland Police Bureau are dealing with in the form of weak-spined Mayor Ted Wheeler, who has openly expressed support for the lawless rioters that have been destroying his city and only very briefly stopped to offer a hollow denunciation of their violence.
Now, PJ Media reports, Portland police officers are outraged that Wheeler has banned the use of teargas to control the crowds, who have been launching overt assaults on members of the bureau as well as local and federal government buildings and police precincts for months on end.
“It’s time for everyone to reduce the violence in our community. We all want change. We all have the opportunity and obligation to create change,” said Wheeler in a Thursday press release. “That’s why, as Police Commissioner, effective immediately and until further notice, I am directing the Portland Police to end the use of CS gas for crowd control.”
“Banning the lawful use of CS will make it very difficult to address this kind of violence without resorting to much higher levels of physical force, with a correspondingly elevated risk of serious injury to members of the public and officers,” the statement reads, according to The Portland Mercury. “CS, while effective, is a significantly lower level of force than impact weapons, which would very likely be necessary to disperse riotous groups with its prohibition.”
PJ Media’s Rick Morgan rages:
Why should the rioters even want to “reduce the violence in our community?” They are trying to foment violence. They want violence. Wheeler is beyond belief.
Wheeler lives in a fantasy world. The rioters aren’t protesting anything. They only want to cause confusion and mayhem. And Wheeler has given them a gift by allowing them to cause disturbances without fear of being handicapped by tear gas.
The Portland Police Department is beside themselves.
And who can blame them? Of all times to have their hands tied by feckless local officials! Being outraged however is a useless emotion at this point. It is time for the Portland police to go into a full retreat and turn the city over to the rioters. Like the US did in Vietnam. They are fighting a losing battle. It is no longer worth defending.
