We still do not know the name of the officer who shot and killed pro-Trump protester and Air Force veteran Ashli Babbit on January 6th. Local law enforcement no longer gets away with officer anonymity while the case is on-going.
Now, apparently, it appears we also don’t know if the Capitol Hill police officer who we were told was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher during the same breach was killed by such actions.
This is just getting weirder and weirder. A report published early in February, which you may have missed as it was on CNN of all places, indicated that federal investigators have faced difficulty building a murder case in the death of officer Brian Sickwick as they are “vexed by a lack of evidence that could prove someone caused his death as he defended the Capitol.”
That does, indeed, sound vexing.
How does one build a case establishing that a crime was committed when there’s no evidence said crime was even committed?
The report noted that the medical examiner’s findings have still not yet been made public (no surprises there) but that “According to one law enforcement official, medical examiners did not find signs that the officer sustained any blunt force trauma, so investigators believe that early reports that he was fatally struck by a fire extinguisher are not true.”
There is no doubt, however, that the “fact” that Sicknick was violently bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher so severely it led to his eventual death will forever be cemented in the minds of former President Trump’s most vehement opponents (i.e. the D.C. establishment at large) all the same.
After all, this was the line the media fed them in the days following the riots, although at the time, the events were rather vague. Reports merely stated that Sicknick had been hit with a fire extinguisher and later collapsed at the department’s headquarters.
“At some point in the chaos — with the mob rampaging through the halls of Congress while lawmakers were forced to hide under their desks — he was struck with a fire extinguisher, according to two law enforcement officials,” The New York Times reported Jan. 8, as BizPac Review notes.
“Sicknick, 42, was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher during a struggle, two law enforcement officials said, although it was not clear if he was the officer shown in the video,” the AP reported that same day.
“Hero Capitol Police cop killed by blow to the head with a fire extinguisher during Trump-inspired riot,” was a New York Daily News headline.
“Police Officer That Rioters Hit With Fire Extinguisher Dies, Making Capitol Siege a Murder Scene,” Slate breathlessly reported.
All of a sudden the liberal media has concerns for the well being of law enforcement officers when they had no such empathy for officers who were spit on, had rocks and bottles filled with feces and urine hurled at them and shot while sitting in their cruisers like in New York City and Los Angeles during urban riots the last several years.
BPR speculates that it is simply this manner of reporting alone that prompted federal investigators to launch a probe into the incident, which only gave more weight to the talking point that the officer had died as a result of wounds inflicted by a mob the Democrats have so very sorely needed to be painted as violent, seditious, and murderous.
In reality, the vast majority of evidence indicates the crowd was unruly, aimless, and very, very likely infiltrated and encouraged by left-wing activists for the sole purpose of undermining the Trump populist movement—let’s be real.
CNN was nonetheless forced to report that investigators are now examining other reasons he may have died, as the evidence it was as a result of a violent beating is flimsy. One option is that he simply became extremely ill after being exposed to an irritant.
This week, Sicknick’s mother also came forward and said that they believe her son had a stroke.
Considering this entire incident is already fraught with concerning secrecy (e.g. the identity of Babbit’s killer), the fact that it’s not even entirely clear how this Capitol Hill police officer died is a huge, huge red flag.
“The case could also be complicated if Sicknick had a preexisting medical condition. It could not be learned if he did,” CNN further reported.
We were told this man was beaten to death by pro-Trump protesters fueled by the former POTUS’ claims that the election was stolen—if that had been the case, would we be talking about preexisting medical conditions here?
CNN noted that very little about Sicknick, a 13-year veteran of the department and Air National Guard veteran twice deployed overseas, has been made public.
The Capitol Police, after the incident, said he had been “injured while physically engaging with protesters” and later collapsed. He passed away the next day at the hospital.
35-year-old Babbit, meanwhile, was shot and killed by a plainclothes officer as of yet to be identified as she appeared to be attempting to breach doors within the Capitol Building that led to a room outside the House chambers.
Investigators have determined and very quickly that the officer, whoever he is, should not be charged for his actions.
All of this is to say nothing of the three people to had “medical emergencies” through the course of the events that day and also died, about which we know very little.
Five people died as a result of these riots and not one case makes much sense. We most certainly do not have the full story here.
It is bad enough that a law enforcement officer died during the ordeal and that citizens also met an untimely demise.
It’s made worse however when the left in the media and high ranking Democrat politicians politicize their deaths to attack Trump.
In fact it’s not worse, it’s sick.
