The New Jussie Smollett? This Dem Candidate Just Faked Her Own Kidnapping. No, Really.

Jussie Smollett has some new competition in the title of biggest hoaxer. And that’s really saying something.

Sabrina Belcher, a Democrat who is running for mayor of Sumter, South Carolina, just faked her own kidnapping and got caught.

Yes, this really happened.

The Post Millennial explains:

Police have arrested a Democratic candidate in South Carolina for allegedly filming a fake kidnapping of herself to win votes while running for mayor, reports The State.

Authorities charged Sabrina Belcher with conspiracy as well as filing a false police report following the fake kidnapping.

She was filmed being robbed, beaten and kidnapped on Tuesday in a video on Facebook live and according to The State, Belcher arranged the whole incident in order to get “sympathy” before the election.

Post Millenial editor-at-large, Andy Ngo, also noted that not only would Belcher have been Sumpter’s first black, female lawyer…she’d also be the first rapper lawyer.

OK, then.

I hope you’re in the mood for some entertainment…check this out:

Belcher and her accomplice, Christopher James Eaddy, reportedly staged and filmed the fake kidnapping and beating hoping to win her some sympathy votes, according to the Sumter Police Department.

We may not be able to give her points for honesty, morals, decency, authenticity, or even a convincing performance, but she sure deserves points for creatively, as faking one’s own kidnapping to gain more votes in a small-town election is most certainly a new one.

Amazingly, Belcher actually tried to blame the whole thing on one of her five opponents in the race, telling police that she’d been attacked by an unknown assailant who she said also tried to rob her.

Red State quips that:

As “harrowing” as the episode was, Belcher somehow managed to keep her “wits” about her and livestream the whole thing on Facebook.

Man, D.C. Democrats ain’t got nothin’ on this political genius, either!

“But alas, a criminal mastermind she ain’t,” Red State adds.

No, she ain’t indeed.

Did she honestly think she was going to get away with this?!
