For the last few years, we have heard non-stop about the idea of a Green New Deal being pursued by socialist Democrats as they try to change America from what the Founders envisioned. Many of the components of this Green New Deal are oppressive, intrusive, and give government a bigger role in society and thus control over our lives.
As we watch state governors issue tyrannical edicts that I find intrusive, offensive, and overreaching, there appears to be no limit to what they will order next. COVID 19 is being used as an excuse. This is nothing more than an exploitation of a health crisis with a survival rate of 99.9%.
Government has always seized more power for itself when a frightened population is willing to let government do whatever figuring that something has to be done or we are all going to die. Survival is a natural reaction to fear. And thus, government seizes on the opportunity to take more power for itself in this pandemic and we’re left with less control over our lives.
Government convinces us that we must save every life. Keep in mind that nearly 7,700 Americans die every day for a total of 2.8 million per year of all other causes. Ponder that for a moment. And meanwhile, too many of us simply roll over and comply, no questions asked, trusting that government bureaucrats know what’s best for us even at the expense of liberty and limited government.
We are told that the elected officials are being guided by the science and the medical community.
Bullshit.
There are a few problems with that.
The first is that science doesn’t prove, it only probes and medical opinions vary widely in that community and there is no consensus about many illnesses and remedies to treat them differ. COVID is no different. We know this much for sure. No one doctor or scientist is correct on COVID. There are only competing opinions. They should all be accepted and listened to in developing public policy.
Instead, we have granted Dr. Tony Fauci god-like infallible status. Nobody dares to question his advice even though he has been wrong on just about every recommendation he has made from the beginning. His initial diagnosis was that COVID wasn’t that serious and he said there was no need for people to wear masks. Just wash your hands he said.
For those who would say we know more about the virus now, I respond that the science hasn’t changed, the politics of COVID has however. COVID has been turned into a biological grade political weapon and unleashed on the American people. The data used is corrupt. Any doctor who practices medicine and actually treats patients or epidemiologist who has a different opinion than Fauci is labeled a distraction or conspiracy theorist.
Fauci doesn’t treat patients. We needed a second opinion before crashing the economy and intruding on individual rights.
We are now 9 months into what was supposed to be a two-week lockdown to bend the curve and shore up medical supplies and there is no end in sight to this tyranny by government. Vaccine or not. We went from only sick people wearing masks to ordering everybody to wear a mask when inside their own home. Business are still under onerous restrictions that caused many to collapse. This is repulsive.
I recently re-read the Declaration of Independence. It gave me an idea.
Two sections of the original document stood out. First was, “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, —That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
The second section that stood out was, “In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the humblest terms. Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free person.”
We need a new Declaration of Independence with a new list of grievances that addresses government abuses of our God-given rights in the 21st century. Under the 10th Amendment, it is time for We The People to decouple from an overreaching and intrusive federal administrative state in Washington DC like the Founders were forced to do Then at the state level, free people can decide how to rein in tyrannical elected officials.
