The Republican National Convention kicked off on Monday, just days after the Democrat National Convention concluded its “national Zoom meeting,” as one Twitter user described the all-virtual event.
With the DNC so fresh in our minds, the hypocrisy with how the mainstream media treated each party’s respective convention could not be starker.
While mainstream talking heads fawned over the Democrats’ speeches, the switch flipped when it was time to cover the GOP convention, naturally.
All of a sudden, they began fact-checking and scrutinizing.
The double-standard was so brazen, that CNN’s Chris Cuomo apparently felt the need to defend himself.
As Disrn reports, Cuomo claimed that the Republicans and President Donald Trump in particular need to be fact-checked more because, well, they just lie so much more.
“Again, well, who are people going to believe? We’ll see who makes the better case. And yeah, you can fact-check it to death. We could fact-check this convention all night. People were saying you didn’t fact-check the Democrats,” Cuomo told fellow CNN host Don Lemon.
“They are not lying, the way Trump does,” he declared.
“Do politicians lie? Of course, both parties engage in it. Yes, I’ll give you the full ‘Guilfoyle.’ But not like Donald Trump. Nobody lies the way this man does, has, and will that I’ve ever seen in politics. So — he’s lying to you.”
And we’re supposed to take Chris Cuomo’s word for this?
He is explaining away not having fact-checked the Democrats because “no one lies like Trump does.”
He thinks that creating this caveat explains why he can fact-check one party and not the other, but he’s really just saying the quiet part of why he’s completely abandoned any trace of the integrity of his profession out loud.
There isn’t a certain amount of lies that gets you fact-checked by a brazenly biased news network, it’s one’s party affiliation.
Or more specifically, being Donald Trump.
No president in recent history has been treated like Trump has by the mainstream media. Ironically, he’s already guaranteed to be one of our nation’s most iconic presidents of all time for the sheer amount of attention that the press gives him, all of it negative.
The mainstream media has created their own monster when it comes to Trump. The more they obsess over him, the more he trolls them. The more negative coverage they give him, the less his supporters, and even some of his critics, trust them.
He calls them “fake news” and gets away with it because we all know they’re biased.
This is one of his greatest strengths and has exposed the corporate media complex’s greatest weakness: their narcissistic obsession with telling Americans what to think and believe.
Well, we’re done listening.
