It’s been less than three weeks and President Joe Biden’s White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, has already completely botched her job and failed to give any impression to the American public that the administration plans to even feign transparency other than claiming to offer it in everything they do.
Psaki is working with a sycophantically friendly press pool and can rarely come up with answers to any questions that are more straightforward than “I’m going to have to circle back to you on that one.”
Seriously, could they not find a Beltway establishment loyalist who is better at lying? At the very least?
Last week, it was revealed that not only is Psaki struggling to answer questions the first time she hears them, she’s also hoping to have these questions in advance.
If this is actually happening, it’s all the more shameful that we’re expected to take this woman seriously as she updates us vaguely on the happenings at the White House.
The Daily Beast reported last week that, according to three separate sources, communications staff members in Joe Biden’s White House reached out to reporters to see what questions they plan to ask Psaki.
During a meeting of the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA), sources said that leaders at the meeting advised print reporters to refuse these requests from the White House. In addition to resisting pressure from administration staffers to know, ahead of time, what questions will be asked, leaders suggested that reporters simply not acknowledge any inquiries from Biden’s press team.
One White House correspondent, while relieved to see daily briefings return, was reported as saying, “The press can’t really do its job in the briefing room if the White House is picking and choosing the questions they want.”
“That’s not really a free press at all,” they added.
That’s hilarious. We haven’t had a free press in this country ever since they decided to be the propaganda wing of liberal politics. They have abandoned any notion of being independent.
“Biden’s press team did not deny that staffers had solicited questions from reporters,” the Daily Beast reported. “But the White House contended that it has tried to foster a better relationship with the press corps than the previous administration.”
Biden’s communications team also claims to have tried to reach out to reporters directly in an effort to avoid appearing to dodge questions during Psaki’s briefings. The concern reporters had is that a press secretary could avoid calling on a reporter with a topic that they wish to avoid.
Still, in spite of this absurd facilitation of kid-glove treatment from the press, the press is ready and willing to give in, it seems.
While widely mocked by conservative netizens, the new press secretary has nonetheless received many positive reviews from media outlets such as Forbes, The New York Times, and The Washington Post who apparently look forward to “reality-grounded” press briefings.
After all, let’s not forget that it is this same media that asked then-candidate Biden such trivial questions as, “What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?”
